From the seventeenth century, some sights in Leuven were elevated to seven wonders. The number seven was held in high esteem in ancient times, as the seven wonders of the ancient world testify. In the Duchy of Brabant this came to a climax in 1646, when Erycius Puteanus in Brussels went in search of all kinds of septenarys. After that, seven wonders were also sought in Leuven, in line with the seven legendary noblelines of the city.
