Just a great castle with gates, courtyards and restaurants.
Can get crowded at weekends or at events.

  • Satzvey is a part of the city Mechernich in the district Euskirchen in the Eifel. In the village lies the castle Satzvey and near the
Hochwildpark Rheinland. Also a few hundred meters away are the castle Zievel and the castle Veynau.
Historically, the village is a "castle village". The oldest building from the 13th century is the
Parish Church of St. Pantaleon. In addition, many half-timbered buildings characterize the character of the village.

The castle Satzvey is one of the most beautiful moated castles of the Rhineland. The first records are from 1396,
but it is suspected that the foundations of the castle house are even older.
Over 300 years in family ownership, Burg Satzvey is still the residence and ancestral home of Count Beissel von Gymnich.

  • Burg Satzvey is fun. Whether for Easter or Christmas. Satzvey became known for his jousting. Then life rages here like in the old days. Highly recommended.

  • About castle Satzvey
"Thus, Satzvey Castle has become a true monument of its own history and aristocratic self-image in the mirror of the 19th century and a romantic ideal, as the old castle house could not and no other castle in the district Euskirchen convey."

  • A visit to the annual castle Christmas is worthwhile. Due to the varied market stalls, the attention to detail and the medieval nativity scene from the Staufer period, the Castle Christmas is one of the most popular Christmas markets in Germany. The festive lighting in the castle and park also creates a romantic and pre-Christmas atmosphere. We have already visited the Christmas market at Satzvey Castle several times and have always been thrilled.
Unfortunately, the castle Christmas was canceled this year due to the corona pandemic.

  • One of the most beautiful moated castles and a real hiking highlight. A lot of events take place at Satzvey Castle, but Satzvey Castle is a great place and a very nice photo opportunity even without the events.

  • Nice old castle in good condition. Many events during non-Corona times such as Witches Night, Christmas market and knight events. Then you have to pay admission, which benefits the castle. It's not cheap, but it is necessary.

  • The castle Satzvey is a medieval moated castle, initially from the 12th century, and is located on the northeastern edge of the Eifel in Mechernich (district Satzvey) in the district Euskirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).

Among specialists, she is considered the best preserved in their original building water castle of the Rhineland, as a gem of the Rhenish castle construction and monument of noble culture and life form.

  • Great well-preserved castle, definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, the whole thing is constructed like a kind of amusement park.

  • Satzve Castle is of course very well known for its jousting games that take place there twice a year. But even without an event, a tour of the castle courtyard is recommended. We had a delicious end to our hike in the mustard mill. The falmm cake was just delicious.

  • Looks cute, there is usually a sausage on the fist and you can combine the visit with two other castles in the region or the Katzensteinen near Mechernich for when you urgently have to hike a lot.

  • Especially when no hustle and bustle is announced you can discover the true beauties here. A round through the village with the wonderful half-timbered houses. Way crosses and the old church.

  • A very beautiful and well-kept moated castle, the beginnings of which go back to the 12th century.
The castle and its courtyard are accessible.
Nice excursion destination on the edge of the Schavener Heide with other castles in the vicinity!

  • A great old water castle. We remembered the castle pretty run down, but today we really liked it here. Usually with nice little shops and restaurants. Everything closed at the moment.

  • 🏰 Satzvey Castle.

There is usually always something going on here. Beer gardens, concerts, events, jousting games and Halloween spectacles.

A stop is always worthwhile. Hope Corona is hopefully under control soon!

  • During the flooding disaster in July 2021, Satzvey Castle was also hit really badly by the floods. The entire area was completely flooded.
Fortunately, nothing happened to anyone, neither humans nor animals.
The property damage, however, was devastating. The riding arena / tournament area was completely destroyed, as were most of the merchants' stalls. A building is in danger of collapsing. The Schnitzelhäuschen of Satzvey Castle is completely destroyed from the inside, etc.
