Frank

Hello, my name is Frank, I usually hike together with my wife and our little dog.

We love walking along coastlines. Therefore, we did the South West Coast Path, the UK’s longest National Trail. The SWCP begins in the town of Minehead in Somerset, overlooking the Bristol Channel. The path then takes you right to the (Lands) end of the UK and back along the southern coast until you reach Poole in Dorset.

With Brexit kicking in we stopped our activities in the UK, but maybe one day we´ll go back and do the few kilometers that are still missing.

Hence we started our next project on the other side of the channel, the GR 34 “Sentier des douaniers” the Customs Trail along the coast of France. From Mont Saint Michel (Manche) to Saint Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique)

If you´d like to use our tours, here is some advice.

As hikers we are not ambitious enough to carry all our belongings along the coastline, so we developed our own system. We travel with two cars, always leaving one car for the night. Therefore, our tours usually move forward daily while we´re walking backwards. We place one car at the start of the trail, drive with the second car further down the trail. Then we walk from the second car to the “start” of the trail, take the car we placed there, go to our overnight stay, drive further down the trail and walk back to the second car, drive to our overnight location …

We´re not big fans of walking along streets, so we try to avoid them by planning our tours accordingly. If the path runs along a drivable street, we usually skip the section and rearrange the cars. Beginning and end of our tours are always spots where you can legally park overnight, sometimes it might help to have a four-wheel drive.

If you use my tours, I’d be happy about some feedback or a like, if you have recommendations on the GR34 project, they would be more than welcome too.

Cheers

Frank

GR34 FAILED Plage de Kerler to Lanrivoal Pez Douar

You could follow the road, where there are a few signs for the GR34. However, we usually try to avoid walking on roads and instead attempted the route shown on Komoot and in several other GPS tracks. In the end, we realized that crossing the swampy nature reserve would be difficult, and we also wanted to avoid disturbing the area, so we decided to turn back and return to the car.
