    The "Forester Wenz Eiche"

As the son of a forester, Detlev Wenz spent his childhood and youth in Waldböckelheim. After training in the forest, he took over his first hunting ground in Odernheim am Glan. From 1975 to 1997 he was in charge of the Bad Münster am Stein Ebernburg area and thus also the Niederhäuser Forest. His special love was nature conservation and especially the preservation of rare tree species, such as the service tree. During and after his service, he led school classes through the forest, headed the BUND children's group for years and brought generations of children closer to the forest as a habitat. He became known to many through his mushroom hikes in autumn and his expertly guided hikes on the subject of diptams in June. As recognition and thanks for his commitment as a forester and nature lover, the Niederhausen community dedicated a mighty oak to him in July 1998. The "Wenz Oak" is estimated to be 250 years old, has a diameter of 130 cm and is around 25 meters high. Source: Text information board

The oak is at least 250 years old. Next to it is a showcase about Forester Wenz.
