A really beautiful stone, which unfortunately stands there rather bleak. He was left with just one tree. It will take a while until he is in a forest again!

An unusual stone marks a path in the middle of the forest. At a nearby intersection there is a bench and an unfinished piece of pillar as a table.

The bell stone is located above the Wurmbach valley in Stecklenberg.
The granite block, whose shape reminds of a bell, was probably an ancient Germanic place of worship in prehistoric times. According to legend, the bellstone sounds like a bell during the Walpurgis Night, thus showing the witches the way to the Brocken.

Unfortunately, there is only one tree left on the Glockenstein. The bark beetle did a great job here too. A sad sight.

It's amazing how it looks now on the bell stone - incredibly sad! Bye, beautiful forest! It will probably take a while before there will be new trees again ...

Great highlight. There is only a little tree next to the stone. Opposite you can take a nice break on logs under a tree at the edge of the forest☺️

A huge stone in the middle of the forest. How does that get there?

I'm a little happy that "old" pictures of the bell stone can still be found here at Komoot. Then it's frightening again how quickly the picture can change. But it will all grow back again.

On June 3rd, 2020 the bell stone was still surrounded by trees. With horror, we had to discover (through pictures of a hiking group at FB) that there were hardly any trees in September 2020 and now only one tree is on the bell stone.
We hope that it will look different again in the future.

    Stamp point for HWN fans!
