Tips

High and safe above the Bodekessel you can hear how powerful the Bode flows through the rocks. And if you look closely, you might even find the giant knight Bodo, who is enchanted as a dog and watches over a crown weighing tons that a princess on horseback lost while jumping over the Bodetal. You can find out more about this in the legend about the Rosstrappe (bodetal.de/urlaub-im-harz/urlaubsregion-bodetal/ausflugsziel/rosstrappe.html).

The Bodekessel lies deep in the Bodetal and can be reached either from Thale or from Treseburg. The underground of the paths is not always level.

A great hike. Easier to hike downstream. Unfortunately there are many hikers on the way. Not for people who like loneliness.

The small Grand Canyon in the Harz. A beautiful path along the Bode. Whether up or down, the view is worth stopping by and enjoying nature.

The Bodekessel in the Bodetal is a former waterfall in a magnificent gorge, which was demolished in 1798 by blowing up from 2 m in height to 1 m.

Consistently light but very beautiful hike even on such hot days (35 degrees and more) as at the time. Cool, shady and very varied environment and nature. Also catering is available and the right place with good drinks and snacks.

In the distance you can already hear the rustling of the Bodekessel. The noise gets louder and louder. A look down into the Bodekessel shows that the tides are roaring here.
The Bodekessel is a small waterfall that falls from a height of 1m into the Bode.

The legend of the Bodekessel tells that the crown of Princess Brunhilde is said to be on the ground. She had lost this while jumping over the valley with her horse to get to safety from the giant Bodo. The giant Bodo, who couldn't jump across the valley on his horse and fell into the raging river, has guarded the crown in the Bodekessel ever since. He lives there as a black monster with glowing eyes and razor-sharp teeth.

On the way from Hirschgrund to Treseburg, you will be accompanied by the rustling of the Bode, you should use the opportunity to refresh yourself in some places in the Bode.
