  • The Hirschgrund is a side gorge of the Bodetal in the Harz near Thale in the district of Harz, Saxony-Anhalt.

It is located on the right bank of the southern shore of the Bode and drops from the La Viershöhe (478.9 meters) steeply in a northeasterly direction to the bottom of the Bodetal at Königsruhe (200 meters). As the crow flies, the length of the Hirschgrund is about 400 meters.

Through the Hirschgrund runs in many serpentines Hirschgrundweg, which connects the area of the Hexentanzplatzes with the Bodetal. Also the area in the Bodetal in which the Hirschgrund flows into, in the environment of the Jungfernbrücke, is counted to the Hirschgrund. At times, the Gasthaus Königsruhe also bore the name Hirschgrund. There at the lower end is also the stamping point number 178 Hirschgrund the Harzer hiking nobility.

  • Bodetal is the valley of the Warm and Cold Bode in the Harz Mountains. In the narrower sense, only the ten-kilometer-long, gorge-like valley section of the Bode between Treseburg and Thale is called Bodetal.

Bode, which rises on Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, has cut into the morphologically hard Ramberg granite. The gorge near Treseburg is about 140 meters deep and about 280 meters deep at the transition to the Harz foothills near Thale. The Bodetal was placed under nature protection on March 5, 1937 and later expanded. With currently 473.78 hectares, it is one of the largest nature reserves in Saxony-Anhalt. The Bodetal was included in the list of 77 National Geotopes in 2006.

  • From Thale you follow, past the cable cars, the trail through the Bodetal to the guesthouse Königsruhe in Hirschgrund. The tour can be continued through the Bodetal to Treseburg, over the Schurre to Rosstrappe or over the Jungfernbrücke to La Viershöhe and Hexentanzplatz. Shortly behind the inn comes with Teufelsbrücke and Bodekessel certainly the most beautiful section of the Bodetal.
