Puparschbier Fountain

The Puparsch beer fountain is a small highlight of the Hanseatic city that is really worth seeing and is of great importance.Left in front of the entrance to the Burggarten, it catches your eye.The sentence "Everyone is made aware that no one shits in the Jeetze, because the brewing will start tomorrow!" is on a wooden plaque next to the fountain. A call to the citizens to keep the Jeetze clean, as their untreated water was then used to brew beer.

It's funny, people were told to keep the water in the Jeetze clean. The former brewery in Salzwedel used the water from the Jeetze for brewing. One type of beer was also called Puparsch beer. It was a strong beer that was diluted with water.
