The Prälatenhof was built in 1764 by the master builder Joseph Hirschbihl, who originally came from Bregenz.
The entrance area still shines today in a beautiful frame in the Rococo style. The coat of arms in the frame shows that of the Schuttern Abbey and the client, Abbot Karl Vogel. The building now serves as the residence of the auxiliary bishop.

For a time, the Haus Zum Landeck, the stately building, served as the "Schutterhof" of the Benedictine Abbey of Schuttern as a Freiburg city quarter. After the end of Vorderösterreich and the secularization of Schuttern by the Baden state, the Schutterhof served as the residence of the last abbot and was assigned to the newly founded Archdiocese of Freiburg after 1827.
