One of the few remaining pieces of the Ludwig Canal in Bamberg. It still serves today, in conjunction with Lock 100, to regulate the water level in the Regnitz. It is still used by pleasure boats and for short gondola rides.

The Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal (also called Ludwigskanal or regionally “Old Canal”) was a 172.4 km long waterway between the Danube near Kelheim and the Main near Bamberg in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Bamberg lies not only on the Regnitz River, but also on the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal. This canal runs parallel to the Regnitz, often even wider than the river itself. The present-day canal had an ancestor, the Old Canal. A small section of it remains. It branches off from the left branch of the Regnitz and forms an island within the island area. A tranquil stretch of canal with a functioning lock.
