n 1535, with the erection of the incomplete tower, the construction of the upper parish was completed. In the years 1537/38 the tower was provisionally closed and a dwelling was built for the tower keeper, who was mainly employed for the fire show. This gave the tower an unusual, widely visible, distinctive finish.
In 1928 the last tower warden had to leave his "official apartment".

The upper parish is well worth a visit. On the north side is the bridal portal with its open vestibule and rich sculptural decorations of the wise and foolish virgins. It is usually referred to as the former main portal, but served a former wedding rite of the Catholic Church: The priest blessed the bride and groom and put the rings on the bride and groom in the open air, in order to then move into the church with them and celebrate mass.
