Hiking
Melk Abbey has always had a close connection with Austrian history. Many rulers have visited the house; the rooms, which are reached via the Imperial Staircase, were reserved for the imperial family.
The Imperial Apartments are accessed via the Imperial Staircase. It is located at the southwestern end of the Prelate's Courtyard. The magnificent Imperial Staircase, with its columns made of Kaiserstein, also features rich stucco decoration. Two allegorical figures represent constancy and bravery - the motto of Emperor Charles VI. The stucco ceiling shows the double-headed eagle.
Today, the museum is housed there.
