In the 16th and 17th centuries, witch hunts also took place in Freudenberg. Over 150 residents of the town were “excruciatingly questioned”, subjected to witchcraft tests, tortured and tormented before being publicly burned at the crematorium. The suspects had previously been locked up in the cannon tower, the “witch tower” of Freudenburg.
