The designation "ruin" would seem apt in appearance ... but in this case it is not. It is not a destroyed or demolished building, but an unfinished building.
Why the chapel was not further developed after the war is unknown. In 1630, he gave away the already acquired bells, the installer Centgraf Leonhart Gackstatt, to the Franciscan monastery Miltenberg.

Above Bürgstadt you will find this church ruin made of red sandstone. The chapel was built by Bürgstadt centcraf Leonhart Gackstatt, but the construction work had to be interrupted in 1630 due to the Thirty Years' War. Since then, the chapel is unfinished in its place. From there you also have a phenomenal view of the Main, Miltenberg and Bürgstadt.

One might think that this chapel was destroyed. But it was never completed.

A very interesting hike on the LT 1 (lovely Taubertal) starts at the town hall in Freudenberg a. Main. Ascent to Freudenberger Burg and the Mautersbrunnen, further on the Nibelungensteig past the imposing ring wall and the Heunesteinen you reach the Centgrafenkapelle and from there you have a wonderful view of the wine town of Bürgstadt and the Main valley.

The oldest ruin I know. A lot of history!
Definitely worth it!

You can see it and think, again a remnant of the well-preserved ruin of a finished building. Then you read that it was never finished.
In front of it is a refuge, benches with a wonderful view of the valley

Never built. Still not torn down or tinkered with. Thanks for that.

Incredible that someone would bother and then ...
October 6, 2020
One may think that it is a ruin. But this is not the case. The construction was finished at the onset of war and the chapel was not finished.
