The Brunsberg in the northern Lüneburg Heath is 129 meters not much flatter than the famous Wilseder mountain and thus the highest elevation of the glacial Möranenzuges southwest of Buchholz i. d. North Heath.
It offers probably the best 360 ° panorama in the Lüneburg Heath and is completely surrounded by forests.
Since 1954, the Brunsberg has been designated as a nature reserve with approximately 65 ha, making it the second oldest protected area in the Harburg district. Extensive sand heaths characterize the steep slopes and the partially deeply cut valleys of the Brunsberg. Occasionally, the crowberry spreads and at the moister place you will find the bell-heath, which otherwise prefers the bog. Everywhere in the area, the blueberry in the heaths also occurs and complements the species spectrum of these dwarf shrub heaths.

Past the grazing Heidschnucken, the trail meanders as a sandy path up to the Brunsberg - one of 32 "natural wonders of the Lüneburg Heath". Here, 129 meters above sea level, the view extends far into the distance. Heath, as far as the eye can see, only occasionally breaks through gnarled, rich green juniper bushes. Many hiking trails converge on the mountain.
With its 129m above sea level, the mountain (for some people just a hill) is hardly suitable for record height ... The great view of the unique heath landscape is record-breakingly beautiful! You should also treat yourself to a sunset. Or the visit to New Year's Eve ... or a bike ride ... or kite flying ...

With a height of 129 m, the Brunsberg rises above forest and heather. Hardly any other point in the Lüneburg Heath offers such a 360-degree heath panorama - the climb is worth it.
The route through the wild and romantic Höllenschlucht, which offers plenty of shade even on hot summer days, is particularly recommended. Incidentally, the Brunsberg is also one of the natural wonders that can be easily reached by train - the ascent begins at Sprötze station.
The landscape around the mountain is shaped by the common heather. Without human use or care, forests would quickly develop again due to the flight of seeds from birch and pine trees. In the Brunsberg nature reserve, heather is mowed, plowed and grazed by sheep, and thus preserved in its historically evolved character and beauty.
