One of the most beautiful heath areas is the Büsenbachtal near Handeloh.

From the car park you start into the flat valley along the Büsenbach and after a few meters the valley opens up into a wide heath area of incredible beauty.

The small Büsenbach flows through the valley, with wonderful heather-covered hills rising to the right and left. Dark green, gnarled junipers provide a fantastic contrast to the purple flowering heath areas. Silver-white birches rustle in the wind and you can hear the stream babbling.

The Büsenbach is a nutrient-poor river fed from a spring moor. Here you can experience the special phenomenon of a "stream sinkhole", where the course of the water seeps into the ground and reappears further down.

From the "Pferdekopf", the highest hill, you have a great view of the valley. Benches invite you to have a picnic and a large forest area surrounds the entire valley.

Sandy paths lead through the area, a great area for hikers. And maybe you'll even see the shepherd with his flock of sheep, who often walks through the valley in the afternoon.

By the way: The Büsenbachtal is located directly on the "Heidschnuckenweg" quality hiking trail.

      Büsenbachtal

The Büsenbachtal is the second closed heathland area in Buchholz, next to the Brunsberg area. To be honest, the Büsenbachtal does not belong to Buchholz at all, but to the municipality of Handeloh. However, it is very close to Buchholz and so you can quickly get to the heart of it, even by bike.

The stream with the small bridge is particularly popular; children always go to it first and find it difficult to get away.

Apropos children: carriage rides to the Büsenbachtal at children's birthday parties are an alternative to fast food restaurants. Flying a kite at the Pferdekopf is also fun.

The Pferdekopf is a small hill at the western end of the Pferdekopf, which offers a wonderful view.

After the trip, you can stop off in style: in the Schafstall, the restaurant and café right by the Büsenbachtal.

The small Büsenbach flows through the valley, and heather-covered hills rise to the right and left. Gnarled junipers contrast with the flowering heaths. There are more and larger heaths: Wilsede; Röders Heide; Behringer Heide; Totengrund, Osterheide and many heaths

Due to roots and other obstacles, the paths are more suitable for experienced cyclists. Be careful not to ride to the right of the Pferdekopf - that is prohibited!  **Tip**: For a carefree experience, we recommend exploring the beauty of nature on foot.
