In place of several houses destroyed by an early air raid at the end of the First World War, the building complex for the headquarters of the Haus Neuerburg cigarette factory was built.
The company goes back to a small factory that Johann Neuerburg founded in Wittlich/Eifel in 1866 to process local traders' tobacco. Neuerburg (1805-1890), a trained red tanner, had been growing tobacco in Wittlich since around 1850. The tobacco was sold to Trier, about 40km away. Here, tobacco processing was the second dominant industry alongside leather production

The Neuerburg house is a listed building on Gülichplatz in Cologne's Altstadt-Nord district. It was built in two construction phases in 1921 and 1929 on behalf of the Cologne cigarette manufacturer Heinrich Neuerburg as the headquarters of his company Haus Neuerburg.
