Femmy Otten worked nine months on a wooden version of this statue: the entire duration of her pregnancy. By taking her time, she was also able to create distance. Femmy Otten noticed that there are relatively few images of pregnant women in art history, especially in contemporary art. Art by female artists who are mothers is also underrepresented in the public space.

This renewed version in marble was preceded by another nine months of precision work. The statue was not kneaded by the gaze of a man. Her nudity is not erotic, but disarming. Without the burden of clothing, we are all equal: a comforting thought. You feel the softness and love that the artist put into the execution.

Unlike a classical statue, it does not stand on a pedestal. The woman touches the surface of the water with her hand. In this way, the water becomes like a fluid pedestal. The woman lies in a very uncomfortable position. She has a block on her leg: at her feet is a jumble of body parts. At the same time, it seems as if she keeps all this in balance. The mother figure possesses the primal power of giving life and is at the same time vulnerable.
