Halve Maan was set up by the Germans during World War II and is the only preserved bunker complex of the Atlantic Wall equipped for anti-aircraft defense. It was built on an older, seventeenth-century defensive structure, dating back to the 1601-1604 siege of Ostend. Also rare: a crew, command and machine gun bunker, observation posts and a flanking bunker.
