Professor Dankwart Lehinant designed the memorial for the Sudeten German expellees from Brüx in North Bohemia (today: Most). In 1949, the city of Erlangen took over the sponsorship for the expellees from Brüx. The memorial also includes the Brüxer Brunnen (Brüx Fountain), which shows the courses of the Elbe, Vltava, and Ohře rivers within the outline of the former Kingdom of Bohemia. A stele displays the coats of arms of Erlangen and Brüx, as well as the Brüxer Madonna, a masterpiece of High Gothic art.
