  • The castle was built in 1700–04 according to the plans of Antonio della
    Porta and Jaques Bourdin de la Fond in the Baroque style under the influence
    built in French classicism. Gottfried von Gedeler led
    the construction finished. Together with the palace garden, orangery and
    Konkordienkirche the first self-contained, baroque church was built here
    court ensemble of buildings in Franconia. On the attics there are ancient deities in the form of sandstone statues by the Bayreuth court sculptor Elias Räntz. On September 12, 1703, Margrave Christian Ernst acquired the palace and gave it to his third wife Elisabeth Sophie. During the castle fire on January 14, 1814, it burned down completely and was only rebuilt for the university in 1821-25. Today is the one
