The Meissen Gate in Freiberg. Among other things, a Saxon post milestone from 1723 stands here.

    Info:

Freiberg once had five city gates. Facing east, north, and east was the "Meissen Gate," from which the old road to Meissen led. It was demolished by explosives in 1877.

The Meissen Gate was located between morning and midnight and stretched out towards Meissen and Dresden. The suburb was divided into two long alleys and streets, one the Meissennice and the other the Dreßnice Way. This gate took its name from the city of Meissen, as at that time Meissen was more prestigious than Dresden due to the episcopal seat located there. The tower and some parts of the ring wall were demolished in 1579 due to dilapidation and rebuilt. In 1632 the Meissen Gate and Rondel were heavily bombarded and damaged during the siege by Gallas. Shortly afterwards it was repaired and rebuilt.

In 1877 the Meissen Gate was demolished by explosion.
