On the Rhine promenade, at the level of the west pavilion of Biebrich Castle, we come across a small fountain.

Its original function is interesting: the fountain once served as a horse trough. This also explains why it used to be located directly on the balustrade of the terrace of Biebrich Castle - and thus directly accessible to horses from the street. The dedication is also noteworthy: the inscription reveals that the trough was donated in 1898 by the "Wiesbaden Animal Welfare Association". Below is a quote by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing:
