    Hiking

Schwalbenthal House is the last remaining house of the historic mining settlement of Schwalbenthal on the eastern slope of the Hoher Meißner. It was built as a mining office around 1680 and, after the end of mining and the demolition of the remaining settlement buildings, continued as an inn and spa guesthouse. The building complex, including the Keudelbrunnen fountain, the terrace, and the barn, is a cultural monument. Remains of the first listening station on the Hoher Meißner are also located on the property.

    Hiking

The remains of the Schwalbenthal mining settlement are located above Vockerode on the southeastern steep slope of the Meißner. The mountain village suffered severe damage from a landslide in 1907 and had to be evacuated. Only the former mining inspector's house, which is now used as the Schwalbenthal Inn, remains. There is also an adjoining outbuilding and the Keudell fountain. The oblong building at the bottom of the photo (photo right) houses the Schwalbenthal water system's deacidification and filtration system.

The village's former cemetery is located about 400 meters away.

    Hiking

The approximately 2 km long, easy-to-walk Knappenpfad hiking trail begins at the Schwalbenthal car park, the cradle of mining on the Hohen Meißner. The trail leads through the former mining settlement of Schwalbenthal, past the cemetery, and past relics from the era of historic mining on the Hohen Meißner.
