Frauenalb Abbey was founded around 1185 by the Counts of Eberstein as a Benedictine convent for noble nuns. Only women from noble families were admitted. Shortly after 1600, the last woman left the monastery. Today, a foundation oversees the preservation of this remarkable ruin.
