There is a legend about this place:
At the ford, where the Elbchaussee crosses the Flottbek today, carts repeatedly crashed through wheel breaks. It was assumed that “it was with the devil” there. Then a carpenter was hired to build a bridge over the stream. He enlisted the help of the devil for the construction of the bridge and promised him the soul of the first living being that would cross the bridge. After the pastor from Nienstedten had blessed the bridge on the day of the inauguration and wanted to step on it, a hare was frightened by the crowd and was the first living being to cross the bridge.
So the devil sits here with the creature in hand.
The work of art was made in 2000 by Carl Schütt and Son, stonemasons.
