The Board of Trustees "National Heritage Trees", part of the German Dentrological Society (DDG), is committed to the care and preservation of very old trees. Since 2019 there has been a tree register in which old trees are registered: the National Heritage Trees. One hundred trees with a trunk circumference of more than 4 meters and if possible over 400 years old are to be registered there. There are not many such trees in Germany - not even on the whole earth. The giant trees in the deer park are all old and one of them actually made it into the register: the sycamore maple registered as the 6th tree is approx. <270 years old and 5.5m thick. An impressive appearance!

Here the trees were given space to unfold.

The Hirschpark is a 24.5 hectare landscape garden in the Nienstedten district of Hamburg.

The history of the area surrounding the deer park was already described by Lappenberg and Ehrenberg in the 19th century.

The merchant Jean Cesar Godeffroy (1742–1818) acquired the property from the estate of Berend Johann Rodde in October 1786.

He was a merchant in Reval and traded with and from Russia.

He had bought a 7/4 Bauhof from Peter Diedrich Tönnies and 1 1/2 from Heitmann and Eggerstedt.

At that time it was the largest estate in the area.
