The baroque village church in Grünberg, which is well worth seeing, surprises inside with its very fine, yet simple, village-like design. Erected in 1764, it has two galleries, a pulpit integrated in the altar (with hourglasses to measure the sermons! ;-)) and a Jehmlich organ. By the way, the tower would have been as crooked 100 years ago as it is today. ;-)

A beautiful village church, next to the old manor.

Opposite the church at the former parsonage there is a plaque commemorating the founding of the first Saxon mission school in Grünberg in 1832. This eventually led to the Saxon Mission Society in Dresden, later Leipzig. The effects reached as far as Australia: the two missionaries Johann Gottlob Teichelmann and Clamor Schürmann wrote a grammar and dictionary of Aboriginal languages in the mid-19th century. At the end of the 20th century, these same scripts were used to revive these languages in Australia. Dr. Alitya Rigney from the Kaurna tribe and Verna Koolmatrie from the Ngarrindjeri tribe, who have been teaching the languages of their tribes for some time, were present for the unveiling of the plaque in 2011 in Grünberg.
