After the city was founded (between 1240 and 1245), a church was built in the city where the Protestant church still stands today. The old village church south of Bachgasse was abandoned. In addition, a stately town courtyard was laid out, today known as the Strahlberger Hof. The representative stone house with a nearly two meter thick wall gable is over 700 years old and is the oldest still inhabited secular building in the area.

Before that the Romans were already here and next to the town (which later lost its town charter) there was a Franconian settlement. During the Thirty Years' War, the settlement was completely abandoned in the meantime. You can read more about the exciting history of the place here:

Former town seat of the castle lords of the ray castle - built in the 13th century probably the oldest surviving residential building in the region.

Schriesheim probably has the oldest stone house in the region, which is now used as a restaurant, in the Strahlenberger Hof, the former city palace of the Strahlenbergers. For many gourmets, the restaurant is one of the culinary addresses on the Bergstrasse. Modern natural cuisine, cooked with great passion and precision, is on the menu here.
