The Spatschlucht was formed around 1800, when the above-ground mining of heavy spar, also known as barite, began. The white spar powder was used as an additive in the manufacture of paint and paper. All in all, barite was successfully mined in the area for almost 140 years until 1939.

The area around the gorge is very beautiful. A highlight is definitely worth a visit. It's not very big, but it's impressive. In the past, heavy spar was mined here. Small but nice🤗
