Mountain Biking Highlight
This Highlight is in a protected area
Please check local regulations for: Nationalpark Harz
The Achtermannshöhe is the starting point for several different technical trails. The trail to the north is fun, the one to the south is challenging. But before you “throw yourself down” the trails, you can also climb the last few meters to the summit and enjoy the view. The bare, rocky summit offers a good all-round view. At the foot of the final ascent there is also a refuge and the stamp point 12 / Achtermannshöhe of the Harzer hiking pin.

Here you have to walk over a root-strewn forest path that runs over a pile of single but wedged granite rocks. Sturdy shoes should be worn ....

Great view and do not take the difficult route from Königskrug, otherwise you have to wear your MTB for a while like me.

If you are there with the bike: you will not drag the bike up to the top and leave it there. You can not supervise it then. A bicycle lock must not be missed 👍🏻

On a clear day you have a view over the entire Harz up to the horizon.

The Achtermannshöhe (926 m above sea level) is located northwest of Braunlage and is the third highest mountain in Lower Saxony and the fourth highest mountain in the Harz Mountains.
From the summit you have a beautiful view of the Harz mountains, especially the Brocken and the Wurmberg. With good visibility you can even see the Thuringian Forest with the Inselberg.

The climb up is worthwhile - even if the trees in this area have unfortunately suffered a lot and the view a bit cloudy.

Unfortunately, Komoot employees have thrown together several highlights into one here as well.
Many photos and some descriptions do not match at all.
Pity ...

So, I like to start from the parking lot. in the Ilsetal (chargeable.), drive up to the Eckertalsperre (shortly before root distance about 100m). About the dam through the Kohlför up to the peat house u.dann about one Km Richt. Altenau then turn left onto the Auerhahnweg. Up to the sun cap u. entl. of the creek to the Oderteich, on the west bank entl. (also Wurzelstr.) to the dam. Parallel to B242 / B4 on forest road to Königskrug u. from there on the billions way up to the Achtermann.
Since I have to return to the Ilsetal, I drive over to the triangular pole, up to the Goethebahnhof (last 20 meters rather steep) u. then up to the old father chunks. Go back down 4 km road, on the Glashüttenweg, above Schirke u. Three Annen Hone, past the Hohenstein cliffs (stop slightly and climb up, relatively safe.). Past the Gasthaus Plessenburg, over the Paternosterklippen u. the Ilsestein back to the parking lot. Then you have 65 km on the clock u. in the legs, but I would say "dream tour". have fun Harald
