The fortunes of the medieval town of Hattingen were once controlled from here. However, the Old Town Hall was not built as it appears today. This gem of the old town has a varied history that began before 1420 as a market hall for the sale of meat.

Built in 1576 on the municipal meat hall, it was used from 1932 as a museum of local history. After extensive renovations, the Old Town Hall has been used since 1993 as a municipal cultural center.

The Old Town Hall from 1576 on the Untermarkt is one of the most famous motifs in the Old Town. It includes the Municipal Gallery, where exhibitions are shown and cultural events (cabaret, chamber concerts, readings, lectures) take place (see event calendar).
Another note: During the Advent season, the façade of the old town hall is especially festively decorated.
