Baunach calls itself like the Franconian Three Rivers City, because it is located on Baunach, Lauter and Main. These three rivers are also the basis of the coat of arms, in which a golden pike lies over three rivers.

The city celebrated its 1200th anniversary in 2002. The name Baunach comes from the Indo-European word for river: bunahu (German: schwellen) and can be translated as "swelling water".

A tip for your stay in Baunach: the rock cellar! Perfect for the cozy end to a hike with fresh draft beer and hearty meals.

For the way from the rock cellar to the train station you should allow for a good 15 minutes.

The historic town of Baunach was first mentioned in 802 and is therefore over 1200 years old. Located in the Haßberge nature park and not far from Bamberg, it offers visitors a number of historical buildings. The town is not uninteresting for hikers, as it offers a wide network of attractive hiking trails. So I would like to mention the Seven Rivers Hiking Trail or the Jakobusweg (section Lichtenfels-Nuremberg), as well as the castle and castle hiking trail.
