About Haßberge Tourismus e.V.

A tour full of highlights. This tour connects the Haßberge with the Itzgrund bordering on the northeast. Along the way are scenic, historical and art historical highlights. On the way you pass several castles and ruins, so you should plan a little more time to combine the tour with one or the other tour along the route. The route is very varied in terms of landscape, but also includes one or two challenging climbs. The majority of the route runs away from road traffic, with a few short exceptions in the Seßlach area, where you can avoid roads with little traffic.

Cycling from castle to castle, along romantic brook and river valleys. This circular tour takes you from the dreamy half-timbered town of Hofheim in Lower Franconia to a total of five castles from the 17th and 18th centuries. You cycle along streams and rivers that are close to nature and cheerfully meander through meadow valleys, which make the landscape of the Haßberge even more romantic. The locks you will pass on the tour are:The Burgpreppach moated castle: A late baroque moated castle complex with a remarkable appearance and building history. The plant is still inhabited by the Fox of Bimbach.Pfaffendorf Castle: The representative headquarters of the von Stein family in Rococo style, which remained the residence of the historically significant family until 1875. The castle now houses a Sales Bosnian youth welfare center. Accordingly, the building can only be viewed from the outsideMaroldsweisach Castle: Built in 1768 in the Rococo style, the castle stands on the site of its predecessor, which was destroyed in 1525, and represents the historical core of the market town.Birkenfeld Castle: The country castle built on the foundations of a former moated castle in 1738 is considered one of the most elegant small castle complexes in Franconia. The estate impresses with the ensemble consisting of a four-winged core palace, gardens, pavilions, an extensive park, outbuildings and a courtyard.Castle and landscape park Bettenburg: This small Renaissance castle sits enthroned on a hilltop in the Hofheim region and is a symbol of the Haßberge. Around 1800, the Bettenburg became an artistic and intellectual center of romanticism, the "Weimar der Haßberge". In addition to the founder Truchseß von Wetzhausen, Friedrich Rückert and Jean Paul gathered for the so-called Bettenburg Round Table, a group of literary figures.
