The St. Pauli Elbtunnel is mostly called Alter Elbtunnel by Hamburgers - in contrast to the New Elbe Tunnel, which opened in 1975.
The Alter Elbtunnel was opened in 1911 and connects the Landungsbrücken with the port area in Steinwerder.
Cycling tourists and pedestrians can cross the tunnel free of charge around the clock.
