Information:
In 1555, the upper Mulden Smelting Works became the first smelting works to be acquired by the Electorate of Saxony. A few years later, the lower Mulden Smelting Works also came under his control, followed in 1663 by the Halsbrücke Smelting Works, which had been founded in 1612. The development of smelting began with the start of mining in Freiberg in 1168.
