The Grüner House was one of the first baroque houses in Eger. It was built in 1713 to replace two Gothic houses that were later rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The entrance portal with the Werndl coat of arms cartouche is remarkable. The house is named after the former owner Joseph Sebastian Grüner, who was visited here by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

In the first half of the 19th century, Magistralrat Grüner lived here and the house was a meeting place for frequent encounters with J. W. Goethe. It used to belong to the Wrendls; their coat of arms can be found in the oval cartouche above the portal.Source and further information
