On October 2, 2013, a "Václav Havel Bench" was unveiled on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, with the participation of Dagmar Havlová and Madeleine Albright. Since then, many Czech towns have followed this example: to commemorate the life's work of the great president and as a meeting place for citizens, they have erected benches in the middle of the town so that they can freely discuss political issues in the spirit of Havel. The bench has a simple design, limited to two garden chairs made of metal and wood, connected by a round table with a tree growing in the middle. Now the town of Cheb, right next to the Stöckl, is also commemorating the writer, courageous civil rights activist and President of Czechoslovakia with the country's 37th Václav Havel Bench. Around a hundred citizens donated a total of 192,000 crowns, and companies also participated as sponsors. Engraved around the table is a thought-provoking reminder from the former spokesman for non-violent resistance against the communist rulers: "Truth and love must triumph over lies and hatred."

Václav Havel (born October 5, 1936 in Prague; died December 18, 2011 in Vlčice-Hrádeček) was a Czech playwright, essayist, human rights activist and politician who was one of the leading critics of the regime in Czechoslovakia during the rule of the Communist Party and one of the initiators which belonged to Charter 77. After the Velvet Revolution, in which he played a key role, he was the last (ninth) President of Czechoslovakia from 1989 to 1992 and the first of the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2003. He is one of the pioneers of German-Czech reconciliation. Havel was a member of the writers' community Obec spisovatelů and an honorary member of the Club of Rome.
