The geotop of the Wirtstein Caves (also known as the geotop "Dolomite rock with Wirtstein Caves") is located south of the town of Freienfels. The caves are situated in a mighty dolomite rock face at the so-called Schafhof and are popular with climbers.
The Wirtstein Caves (registered under numbers C93 to C95) are designated as a geotop, as a rich fauna from the Würm glacial period could be recovered from one of the caves.
