University of Helsinki Main Building

The Corinthian columns of the Senate House, together with the dome above the house, refer to the Pantheon in Rome. This was intended to emphasize the role of the Senate in the areas of law and administration. The Ionic columns of the main university building refer to Greece and the science and art it represents.

Helsinki, the Finnish capital in the south of the country, is located on a peninsula on the Gulf of Finland.
