In its outward appearance, the St. Heinrichskirche seems majestic and monumental, and not a few date the date of origin of the church much further back than it actually was. Thus, the construction of the church began in 1927. The construction period of only about two and a half years is quite remarkable.
St. Heinrich is considered the first, significant exposed concrete church in Germany and spans an arc from the historically oriented church buildings to the modern. The modern age shows itself in a pronounced creative power for cubic forms, for monumental simplification and factual exploitation of the material. The building material used was unpainted quarry stone masonry, which was broken and walled in irregular blocks. The church was consecrated on 8 September 1929 to St. Henry, the founder of the bishopric of Bamberg.
