The fate of the communities of Asbach, Weidenbach, Henningerode, Vatterode and Sickenberg is also documented here; these places and their inhabitants fell victim to a local territorial exchange between the Americans and the Soviets in September 1945.

The village of Asbach was first documented in 1284. Sickenberg was initially a separate political municipality, first mentioned in 1298. In 1984, the 700th anniversary of the village of Asbach-Sickenberg was celebrated. Sickenberg had been incorporated into the political municipality of Asbach in 1950. Since the 16th century, Asbach and Sickenberg had been part of a single parish.

Recent history has had a significant impact on the village's fortunes. The outer barrier of the border fortifications ran in the immediate vicinity of the buildings. The residents were thus subject to the strict regulations of the immediate restricted area. Shortly after the fall of the Wall, volunteers from East and West set about removing the relics of the Cold War.

Asbach-Sickenberg is a municipality in the Eichsfeld district of Thuringia. The Asbach was first mentioned in documents in 1284 and Sickenberg in 1298.
In 1945, the previously Hesse villages of Asbach and Sickenberg came to the Soviet occupation zone and thus to Thuringia as part of border corrections (Wanfried Agreement). On July 1, 1950, both places merged to form the new municipality of Asbach/Sickenberg. A name change occurred on May 1, 1992, when the community changed its name from Asbach/Sickenberg to Asbach-Sickenberg.
In Asbach itself there are many old half-timbered houses to marvel at.

The village of Asbach is located on the southwestern edge of the Eichsfeld, between the Rachelsberg and the Lindenberg in the valley of the Hainbach. To the east of it, near the Rachelsberg, the remains of Altenstein Castle have been preserved. The village originally belonged to the territory of the Landgrave of Hesse. In 1945, it was ceded to the territory of the Soviet occupation zone as part of border corrections and later incorporated into the territory of the GDR.

Asbach and Sickenberg are charming half-timbered villages that have retained a very special, secluded charm. This may be due to their location on the border at the time, as Asbach and Sickenberg only became part of Thuringia in 1945 in a treaty signed by the two occupying powers, the United States and the Soviet Union.
