Unfortunately, there were also numerous terrible witch trials in Gadebusch - especially from 1573 to 1692 - it is hard to believe today - but it really was like that - this plaque is intended to remind us of that.
In Gadebusch, according to an excerpt from the Penzlin Witch Museum, 37 people were accused, convicted and even executed in witch trials. In 1648, Margarete Saß was burned at the stake, and her sister suffered the same fate. A woman from the town who was also accused of witchcraft, Grete Langhof, preferred suicide to the torments of fire, strangling herself in prison in 1667.
The Gadebusch town council rehabilitated the victims of the witch trials/witch persecution on December 14, 2015.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadebusch
