The town hall on the market square was built in the 1340s and was originally a functional building for the merchant class. In the 15th century the core structure was expanded and the building received its current use as an administration building. Another renovation followed in 1618, and the town hall received an impressive stepped gable on the market side. The inscription on the coat of arms on the gable says: "Councilor and citizen of Gadebusch. In 1618 the town hall was restored in this form."
