In 1564, Freiherr Christoph von Hagen had a city palace with towers and bay windows built on the border between the old town and the new town, stylistically inspired by the stately renaissance architecture of the castle buildings. Inside, too, Renaissance elements have been preserved with wooden coffered ceilings and carved doors. The Hagensche Freihaus has been transformed into a hotel after its refurbishment.

The Quedlinburg City Palace can be found at the eastern entrance to the old town of Quedlinburg in the Harz Mountains. The property, also known as Hagensches Freihaus, is now used as a hotel.

The Quedlinburg City Palace was built in the Renaissance style between 1564 and 1566 on behalf of Christoph von Hagen. In addition to the impressive Renaissance facade, the noble house impresses with magnificent decorations and ceiling constructions made of wood and sandstone staircases. Over the centuries, the Quedlinburg City Palace has been used in various ways. From 1633 the property served as the residence of the monastery governor. This had the adjacent part of the city wall torn down. In return, he had to undertake to maintain the bank walls of the mill ditch in front of it. From 1816 the building was the first seat of the Quedlinburg district administrator. In the period that followed, the Quedlinburg City Palace served as a building complex for medical practices, shops and as a residential building. After several years of vacancy, the restoration and reconstruction of the castle took place between 2002 and 2004 and the Hagensche Freihaus was restored to its original condition. In 2004 a hotel opened, the two side wings of which were added as a new building to the city palace. The Quedlinburg City Palace is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and listed as an Edelhof in the Quedlinburg List of Monuments.
