You can plan some time for the narrow streets around the Schlossberg, because if you stroll through here, you will quickly feel transported back to the Middle Ages. From the top of the castle you have a great view of Quedlinburg.

Wonderful view of Quedlinburg. There is a beer garden and plenty of benches to rest.

The Schlossberg rises in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park - southwest of Quedlinburg's old town. It falls in the south and east to the Mühlengraben (Mühlgraben) branched off from the Bode. To the west, the Munzenberg joins the Strohberg (182.6 m) on the other side. To the east lies the Ochsenkopf.

In 936, on the intercession of Mathilde, the widow of the , died on the geologically unstable subsoil of the Schlossberg
The sandstone Schlossberg belongs to the ridge of the Quedlinburg Saddle. It is part of the stratified rib landscape of the northern Harz foothills natural region and divides it into the Blankenburger and Halberstädter Mulde.
During the uplift of the Variscan fault block that forms the Harz Mountains, sedimentary layers of the Harz foreland were raised so much that they broke up. The Lower Cretaceous sandstone layers of the Quedlinburg Schlossberg have an inclination of about 27 degrees in a south-southwest direction. The depositional layers of the sandstone sometimes differ greatly. Coarse-grained, more firmly bound layers alternate with fine-grained, rather silty layers. These layers are overlaid by layers that are very firmly bound by the inclusion of iron and manganese oxides.
