This upper part of the west building was built in 1726, but the plans for it date back to 1661.
The Kronach city coat of arms has the form that was used before 1651. This year, Prince-Bishop Melchior Otto Voit of Salzburg awarded the city a new coat of arms in honor of the bravery of its residents in defending Kronach during the Thirty Years' War.
