It is a granite memorial located in St. Nicholas Place at the Pier Head in Liverpool, England. The city of Liverpool is strongly associated with the ill-fated ship that sank on April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic, killing about 1,517 people. The RMS Titanic was owned by the White Star Line, founded in Liverpool in 1840. Liverpool was also the liner's port of registry, with the words "Titanic, Liverpool" inscribed on the ship's stern.
