A ceramic statue of a child on a bicycle has stood here for years
stood in this dangerous place
the statue in ceramic became ill due to violence and vandalism
we are all vulnerable and are damaged, that is the lesson
today the statue is back among us
strong, resilient in durable bronze
but we remain vulnerable in traffic
as pedestrians, cyclists, sometimes without defense
each victim a child of ours now in bronze.
