On Sunday 11 March 2018, the old and sick lime tree on the church square in Bazel was felled. The tree of liberty was planted there 99 years earlier, after WWI. On 11 November 2018, a new lime tree was planted at the same location.

The old peace tree from 1919 - 2018 lies here as a silent witness in Peter's garden. The Peace Tree was felled in the battle with an aggressive fungus. Yet the population wants to keep the Peace Tree in their midst in this honorable way. The deadwood process keeps the community alive.
